Flight and The Wonder of Things by Larena Nellies-Ortiz
Flight and The Wonder of Things by Larena Nellies-Ortiz
Two ant-sized figures stand at the crest of a vast ridge, dwarfed by the sky and billowing clouds.
I took this photo after a grueling 8 mile climb. We were greeted by a band of wild horses, a beautiful blue sky, and that sense of relief and joy when you have finally reached your destination. I was reminded of our capacity to push through discomfort to find higher ground, to gain the view and perspective that make the whole climb worthwhile, step by step, breath by breath.
Sea View
Through the rough frame of ancient stone, the world opens to an expanse of the Mediterranean sea and distant mountains. This photo represents an invitation to pause, to look closer, and to have the courage to step beyond the walls that contain us to see what lies just beyond.
Whether it’s the lift of wings against an open sky, the slow endurance of a high altitude climb, or the invitation to look at a wider horizon, each moment reminds us that there is always something beyond our limitations, our discomforts, and our fears. These images represent that search for perspective, freedom, and expansiveness and the prayer to do so with courage, curiosity, and a sense of awe.
A gull drifts against a muted sky, wings stretched wide. When I watch birds in flight I get the feeling that maybe I too can be free, spacious, filled with perspective, if I could only learn to spread my wings.
